UUCP uses two separate logins. On BSD systems uucp is used by computers that exchange data via uucico. The second login, uucpa or nuucp has a regular login shell and is used for administration. Under SVR4 the uucp login is used for administration and nuucp is the uucico account. Frequently Unix is shipped without passwords for these accounts. For accounts that use uucico as the shell, the password must be set by root using uucp as an option to the passwd command.
