Loading External Resource SettingsApplication programs can use the Xlib routine XGetDefault to load external resource settings. If the user has not set a required resource using the X resource database application xrdb, XGetDefault checks to see if it has been set in the file .Xdefaults, in the user's home directory. Next, XGetDefault attempts to merge any further resource settings found in a file specified by the environment variable XENVIRONMENT, or failing that, the contents of a file called .Xdefaults-hostname in the user's home directory, where hostname is that of the computer on which the client is running.
